FAQ
Is Electrolysis permanent?
Yes.
Electrolysis is a safe & effective method for permanently removing unwanted hair since 1875.
Approved by the FDA.
Are the needles sterilized?
Yes.
All needles (also called filaments or probes) are sterilized, single use and disposable.
- I work with a variety of different diameter filaments to assure the proper fit in the follicle. The proper fit will deliver the energy effectively and help prevent trauma to the skin.
- Filaments are surgical steel with a nickel free coating to reduce reactions, sensitivity and allows the filament to glide easily into follicle with little to no discomfort.
What colour hair can be treated?
Any colour hair can be treated including white, blonde, grey & red.
What colour skin can be treated?
Any colour skin can safely be treated, including dark skin, tanned skin as well as fair skin.
How many treatments will I need?
Results vary from person to person and can not be estimated. There are many variables that determine the effectiveness. As results are very individual, this will be discussed in greater detail during a one on one consultation.
What area of my body can I treat?
Any part of your body can be treated. As electrolysis treats hairs individually, smaller area are recommended.
How does Electrolysis work?
A very fine filament is inserted into the hair follicle. A blend of energy is then delivered into the hair follicle.
What method of Electrolysis do you use?
I use the BLEND method. A computerized blend of electrolysis & thermolysis, providing the fastest, safest & most effective results.
- The blend method calibrates the energy required for each hair. This improves the results and minimizes side effects as it delivers the required blend of energy, not too little, not too much. This also drastically improves comfort level.
Can all hairs be removed permanently?
All hairs will go through a growth phase. Only hairs in the active phase of growth also called the anagen phase can be permanently disabled.
How many hairs are in the active phase of growth?
On average, approximately 10-20% of all hairs present will be in the active phase of growth at one time.
How do I know when my hair is in the active phase of growth?
There is no way to determine what hairs are in what growth phase so all hairs present will be treated.
Is Electrolysis safe during pregnancy?
There is nothing that indicates any risks associated with electrolysis and pregnancy but to the best of my knowledge, there are no studies that have been conducted to assure the safety. Therefore, electrolysis is not recommended at this time.
Can I have Electrolysis if I have a pace maker?
No.
Can I have Electrolysis treatments on hairs in my moles?
Yes, upon written consent from your doctor.
What will my skin look like after an Electrolysis treatment?
Reactions are minimal. Slight reddening and a tiny amount of inflammation around the hair follicle is to be expected. Most reactions may last a few hours, some reactions are gone by the time you finish your treatment.
Are there any risks?
The risks are minor and extremely rare. They may include, slight bruising, tiny burn, approximately the size of a pin head. It may look like a tiny white head. Inflammation of follicle which may look like a small white head, the size of a pin head.
What should I do to avoid reactions?
Keep area clean and avoid excessive touching. As certain medical conditions and certain medications can cause excessive skin sensitivity, please advise of all medical conditions as well as any changes to your medical history and all medications you are currently takins. Some medications can still cause reactions several weeks/months after discontinuing.
Should I be using special skin care products?
While receiving electrolysis treatments, it is very important to be practicing a good skin care routine. Your skin needs to be healthy and well hydrated to get the best results. Using skin care products that will not irritate the skin will help reduce sensitivity and minimize reactions. I carry the products from the Dr. Spiller Biomimetic skin care line. The entire line of products has been created to treat sensitive skin. I particularly like to recommend products with aloe vera in them as they will be calming, soothing, healing and nourishing.
What can I do to improve my results?
There are 2 simple things you can do to help improve the treatments effectiveness.
Keep your skin as healthy and nourished as possible.
- Drink lots of water to keep skin hydrated
- Use a serum day and night under your moisturizer to deeply nourish the deeper layers of skin.
- I recommend Dr. Spillers Aloe Vera Gel, its nourishing and very soothing for the skin. I use this at the end of every treatment to soothe the skin and recommend everyone use it day & night to keep the skin healthy, especially during treatments. ( I have this available to purchase for home care.)
